Gnocchi Kitchen Bar: dietro le porte di uno stellato / behind the doors of a starred restaurant…

ENGLISH VERSION AND PHOTOS BELOW!

Here in Italy, at the gates of Udine, everybody knows the restaurant “Agli Amici dal 1887”, one of the most famous restaurants in our country, 2 star-rated Michelin and awarded by other prestigious gastronomic guides.
Instead, few people know that in the same house located in a little town called Godia, a couple of years ago the Scarello family opened another small restaurant, which aims to a more
traditional cuisine with cheaper prices in a fantastic location.

Godia is well known thanks to the production of potatoes and consequently for the Gnocchi Festival which has been held for many years during the summer, so it’s easy to guess that this simple but fantastic Italian dish is the clear star of the restaurant and you can perceive it also from its name: Gnocchi Kitchen Bar.

Few days ago, informed by an e-mail that their delicious home-made “Panettoni” were fresh baked (we love their version with apricots and Picolit wine), we went for a dinner and as usual everything was perfect!
Obviously is strongly recommended to order the gnocchi, here cooked in 3 different sauces (ragù, cheese fondue and amatriciana with San Daniele ham).

You can also find other delicious dishes like: octopus with “cannellini” beans, baccalà mantecato (cod fish), beef cheek, little lamb balls with thyme, beef ribs in casserole, an interesting cheese selection and other good surprises…

We tasted a very typical Chardonnay from Volpe Pasini Cellar, but we’ve been surprised by a sparkling wine from Franciacorta area, Tenuta Montenisa by Antinori cellars. This is a special selection produced only for “Agli Amici dal 1887”, thanks to the cooperation with this cellar and Michela Scarello (she manages the restaurants with her brother Chef Emanuele and their family).

This is a Blanc de Blancs wine (approximately 85% Chardonnay – 15% Pinot White) that perfectly matched with the octopus with beans cream, thanks to the freshness, the medium body and the really thin bubbles that cleaned the palate. We love this wine because it is creamy, elegant and well balanced. Honestly we don’t know the difference between this special selection and the one you can buy, but we’re going to find it out!
Finally we are pleased to mention the sincere kindness of Scarello family and their team, because you feel like at home despite you’re in one of the best Italian restaurants. You can’t miss a visit if you are in Friuli Venezia Giulia, a Region that produces among the best white wines in the world and that will be mentioned frequently in our blog.
